Defect Summary Volvo Car USA LLC (Volvo) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Volvo XC90, S90, V60, V60 Cross Country, V90, XC40, XC60, and V90 Cross Country vehicles. The software installed in the Vehicle Connectivity Module (VCM) may have an error causing the Telematics and Driver Support Systems to function improperly. As a result, the GPS will not provide location information to emergency personnel in the event of an emergency.

Consequence Summary If the GPS location is not provided to emergency personnel it can inhibit emergency response in the event of a crash or injury.

Corrective Summary Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will correct the software, free of charge. The recall began December 26, 2018. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo's number for this recall is R39917.

Comments

The driver passes other cars with limited regard for safety or traffic laws. They dangerously merged in front of me while trying to make an exit at the very last second. There was no way for me to see their turn signal and to allow them room to merge in front of me while I was speeding up to get onto the freeway. They floored their gas pedal once they left the freeway and poorly merged onto by the expressway. I decided to follow their lead and catch up, maybe I'm actually driving too slow and that can be dangerous. They failed to signal when merging into another exit lane and when they reached the next light which had three different turn lanes in it. I may have clapped like Nancy Pelosi when they finally turned on their turn signal to turn right. I became agitated and moved into the left lane so I wouldn't be behind them anymore and to be in the lane I would need to be in. Suddenly speeding wasn't their priority and they matched the speed of the truck in front of me and we all reached a red light. I took that opportunity to merge behind them, make a gesture regarding size, and snapped a photo of their license plate as they pulled their phone out and held it up so it could capture me. This wasn't my best, most compassionate moment, I admit I was combative in my body language and I could have disengaged from the whole situation and the later half of the story would not have happened. Unfortunately, I was experiencing panic attacks due to who I am as a person on top of the multiple instances of trucks or larger vehicles dangerous passing around me, during rush-hour, not 20min prior encountering this vehicle. My judgment wasn't crystal clear, and for that I take responsibility. Passing requires consent from the party who is going to be passed. They need time to see the turn signal so they adjust their speed to help cars around them merge safely. I wasn't given enough time to see and adjust, that puts everyone in danger which is, honestly, more infuriating than suffering a panic attack.
