Defect Summary Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2011-2019 Corolla, 2011-2013 Matrix, 2012-2018 Avalon, and 2013-2018 Avalon Hybrid vehicles. During certain crashes, the air bag electronic control unit (ECU) may malfunction, possibly disabling the deployment of the air bags and/or seat belt pretensioners.
Consequence Summary In the event of a crash, air bags and/or seat belt pretensioners that do not deploy as intended may increase the risk of injury.
Corrective Summary Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the ECU and install a noise filter between the air bag control module and its wire harness, as necessary, free of charge. Owners were notified of the safety risk beginning March 2, 2020. A second letter notifying owners of the remedy repair will be mailed between March 16, 2020 and June 27, 2020. Defect Summary Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Toyota Avalon vehicles manufactured February 9, 2010, to October 22, 2012. In the affected vehicles, the sub-woofer speaker located in the trunk may experience an intermittent electrical short which may cause damage to the integrated circuit (IC) in the audio amplifier. In some cases, the damaged IC may allow a constant electrical current flow to the sub-woofer.
Consequence Summary A constant electrical current flow may cause the sub-woofer to overheat, increasing the risk of fire.

An inoperative airbag can increase the risk of injury in a severe crash. On March 19, 2020, Toyota expanded the recall to include 2015 Lexus GS350 vehicles. The low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.
Consequence Summary If the fuel pump fails, the engine can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective Summary Toyota notified owners of the safety risk with an interim notification between February 17, 2020 and March 13, 2020 to the original population of potentially affected vehicles. Owners of the vehicles in the expanded population will be mailed letters by May 18, 2020. Toyota will send a second notice to owners to have the fuel pump replaced once the remedy is available. If this occurs, the ECU may not deploy the airbags as intended, in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," and 214, "Side Impact Protection."
Consequence Summary If the air bags do not deploy as intended, it can increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Corrective Summary Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the air bag ECU, free of charge. The recall began October 26, 2018. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's number for this recall is J0X. Note: 18V-122 was superseded by this recall. The software remedy also includes the updates to the software for 18V-122.
