Defect Summary Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Forester vehicles equipped with heated seats. An electrical connection in the front passenger seat for the Occupant Detection System (ODS) may loosen.
Consequence Summary If the connection loosens, the front passenger airbag may deactivate even though the seat is occupied, increasing the risk of injury to the front passenger in the event of a crash.
Corrective Summary Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace the ODS sensor mat harness, free of charge. The recall began February 11, 2020. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WUM-98.

This Subaru Forrester (forest green color and NC License Plate EEY 1221 ) was the culprit of a hit and run on 12/31/2020 at the intersection of Ramblewood Drive and Six Forks Rd. around 1:20 PM in the afternoon. As they sat crooked in the left turn lane, the driver then started to back up and into the vehicle behind them (a black Subaru WRX) also waiting to turn left. This driver in the Forrester caused cosmetic damage to the black Subaru WRX and then fled the scene when the light changed. While the Raleigh police were consulted and there was a witness that verified this hit and run event, the WRX owner choose not to file a report. (Filing a report notes “an accident” on a car’s history and could cause concern with a future resale of the car.)
